Lake Chad and The Dunes of Mao

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in D'Jamena, Chad

Once your international flight arrives in Ndjamena, you are assisted, met and transferred to your hotel. There is a lot of choice, but for price and security reasons we preclude the Radisson in this selection.

Day 2: N'Djamena City Tour

You will visit the Central Market, the cathedral, and The Chad National Museum and view the valuable collection of the Sarh culture dating back to the 9th century. Also, you'll take a tour of the village of Gaoui; the former capital of Sao Civilisation known for its traditional architecture and pottery. You will also have a dinner at a local restaurant.

Day 3: N'Djamena - Lake Chad - Guitté

We will drive you to the Lake Chad, en route to visit the rock elephants; a spectacular rock-forming elephant trunk. After your visit, you'll be transferred to the village Guitté where you will enjoy a cruise on Lake Chad.

Day 4 - 5: Bahr El Ghazel - Lake Chad - Mao Dunes

In the morning you will depart to the Bahr El Ghazel, former bed of Lake Chad and head the nomads way to reach the dunes of Mao. The Kamembous, considered as the fierce warriors of the ancient empire of Kanem, coexist with Choua Arabs, kings of camels in the dunes of the more ancient basin of Lake Chad.

You can also enjoy a camel and horse ride on the dunes for half of your day!

Day 6: Massakori - N'Djamena

Return to Ndjamena via Massakori, where you can relax and rest at your hotel.

Day 7: Departure from N'Djamena

Before been transferred to the airport for your flight back home, you will visit the craft market for gifts and tour of the city and where you'll also observe the monuments and local vibes in this district of the city.

“The trip was great, my team of three (Abakar the translator, Oumer the driver, Zakaria the cook) were fantastic. Everything went smoothly from my point of view. The vehicle was comfortable and reliable; and the food on the journey was surprisingly good. I enjoyed the markets en route (especially the one in Aboudeia).”
